My hog started a revolution.
Community issue: During a down economy, local communities are always looking for someone who is up to the challenge of helping to create change.
How it was addressed: During a time when many Americans are facing financial difficulties in an adverse economic climate, 18 year-old Ohio 4-H'er Lindsay Binegar became a first-time home buyer. Lindsay started showing hogs as a very young 4-H'er. Throughout the years, she frugally saved all of her prize winnings, and by the time she turned eighteen, she had enough to buy a house.
Results: Through 4-H, Lindsay learned more than showmanship and animal stewardship. She also learned the importance of perseverance and fiscal responsibility. And it’s qualities like those that will rebuild our communities, one hog and one house at a time.
