
The 4-H Youth in Action Award will recognize a 4-H member who is a current realization of 4-H's vision for youth who are driving positive change in their communities. As forces of positive change, nominees should have lead a project, service or event that addressed a problem within their community and made a positive impact in resolving the issue. The awardee will receive a $1,000 award and will receive an expenses-paid trip to the annual 4-H Legacy Award Gala in New York, at which he or she will be honored.
Eligibility
The 4-H Youth in Action Award will recognize a 4-H member who is a current realization of 4-H's vision for youth who are driving positive change in their communities. Please review the eligibility and application requirements carefully before submitting your application.
Please Review 4-H members between the ages of 14 and 19 who are currently active in 4-H clubs or programs, or who are recent alumni, are eligible. Youth may be nominated or may self-nominate.
Nominees should have lead a project, service or event that:
- • Identified a problem in their community
- • Included 4-H as part of the solution
- • Made an impact in resolving the issue
The primary focus areas are science, healthy living, citizenship, and engineering and technology. Special areas of interest include environmental responsibility, service to others, overcoming barriers found in urban or remote rural areas, closing the achievement gap and access to higher education.
Nominees should represent the diversity and passions of 4-H youth nationwide, demonstrate outstanding leadership, and possess a proven ability to engage others.
The award winner is expected to attend the Gala in New York City on April 17, 2012, to receive the award and present an acceptance speech.
Application Requirements
Applications consist of submitting the personal information requested on the page below, as well as a personal video. Both components of the application are required. Please carefully review the video criteria.
Please Review The following criteria will be required for an acceptable application. A maximum of 50 points may be awarded for the video component of the application.
In a 3 minute or less video, the nominee should address the following questions/statements*:
- • What problem did you or your community face?
- • What was the solution to the problem, and how was 4-H involved?
- • What impact did the resolution have on your community?
- • How has 4-H impacted your life?
- • Name any adversities or challenges that your 4-H experience has helped you overcome?
* Each question may be awarded up to 10 points

Award Selection Process and Timeline
The award selection is a competitive process. Please review the timeline and scoring details.
Please Review Applications will be scored using the application criteria and a point system (a total of 50 points). Successful applicants will receive an email message offering congratulations and providing additional details for next steps. The winner agrees to comply with the requirements set forth in the RFP and to utilize the 4 H Name and Emblem (Clover) when publicizing the award.

Award Details
- • Winner will receive $1,000
- • Winner will be expected to attend the National 4-H Legacy Awards Gala in New York City on April 17, 2012, to receive the award and present an acceptance speech focusing on the content of their video.
- • Travel expenses will be paid for award winner and one chaperone.
- • A clothing allowance for the event will be available if needed (Business Attire: Black or dark colored suit. Pants or skirt for women, jackets and tie for men).
